2022 NYC Summer Performance Intensive

NYCSS focuses on grounding fights in martial reality to create action that is highly realistic and reveals character as an integral part of the story. Actors learn how violence builds from the written scene and enhances the story being told. The application of skill in a safe environment is extremely important in this art. Learn the relevant skills and professionalism needed to work in our ever expanding and demanding industry. NYCSS 6-Week Weapon Tracks Continue! The Rapier was the preferred weapon of the nobility throughout Europe for most of the 16th-17th century. This Long, slender-bladed sword was often carried with a dagger and saw frequent use in the streets as well as on the dueling field. Realism in Knife Combat: A Sunday Seminar

There are many opinions on the realism of knife fights versus the training that people do to be prepared for one. In a storytelling context, we have to be clear about how the fights are furthering the storyline and revealing character. The innate fear/respect of fighters dealing with a knife attack is a great way to accomplish this. Participants will learn knife fight choreography (beginners will do a simple fight while more advanced participants will get a complex tact knife fight).
